ALLY MCCOIST may not be taking the managerial job off Walter Smith this summer but he is hoping to take something from him over the break – money on the golf course.

McCoist had been tipped by some to take over as manager during the summer with Smith moving upstairs but those claims were dismissed by the Rangers manager last week and McCoist is now looking forward to a summer battle with the gaffer on the golf course.

McCoist said: “I am absolutely looking forward to my break like you have no idea.  I will have the golf clubs looked out and hopefully I will take a few quid off the manager in the summer.”

The Assistant Manager also spoke of the importance of a long summer break for his players.

“I think the players are probably looking forward to getting away from us more but they really need a break, especially when last season they didn’t get as much of a break as we would have liked,” McCoist said.

“I think, obviously with us winning the league this year, it means they get an extra nine or ten days which I think and hope will have great value to them.”
